'Tis the Season

It's been a busy couple of weeks for your Chamber. We celebrated the Grand Opening of Anglerfish Espresso a few weeks ago. It was fun to bring out the big scissors. Make sure you stop in and welcome Amy and team to our chamber and community. I applied for several grants that will bring incredible programs to Depoe Bay, including mobility training, Free Google Business page training and more marketing opportunities around the globe.

Last week we did LOTS of Holiday decorating!

We decorated Community Hall on Monday so all who use it this season have festive decor all ready for them.

Tuesday, we decorated our Angels Anonymous Tree (I will tell you more below).

Wednesday, we decorated wreaths and began delivery to members.

Thursday and Friday we braved the rain, hail, sleet and snow to build Depoe Bays First Crab Pot Christmas Tree. I am so proud of the tree, and we have plans to grow it every year. Our tree lighting ceremony was attended by several families and community members. We had lots of fun, shared cookies and delicious hot chocolate made by Anglerfish Espresso. The Chamber has a contest, take your photo by the Crab Pot Tree, tag the Chamber Facebook and use #holidayontheharbor, we will randomly pick 3 and award a special gift.

Saturday was the Angels Ball. Our tree was beautiful and a tribute to all who make Depoe Bay the best city on the Oregon Coast. We called it "Heart of The Harbor", the ornaments were selected to represent our community. From Charter boats, salmon, crab, coast guard, wine barrels, pie slice, crystal hearts for those we have lost and those iconic families like the Taunton's, Bill Spores, Woodmark's, O'connells, Lars Robinson, Tam Family and more. Lots of you contributed to our tree with prizes and gifts that the winner of the tree gets to enjoy. We had fishing and whale watching trips from Tradewinds, Whale Research EcoExcursions and Keeping It Reel. Wine from Depoe Bay Winery, Jewelry from Blue Heron, Awesome Depoe Bay coats from O'Connells Gallery & Gifts, 1 pie a month for a year in honor of Betty Taunton, Tickets to our signature events, a STUNNING canvas of a photo taken by Out West Photography and so much more. The Chamber's tree not only raised Thousands of Dollars for Angels Anonymous, but we also won a special award for the Angels Board favorite tree. Whew, that was just last week.

This week we have the return of the Holiday Community Potluck! Thursday, December 8th at 6pm is the dinner. All are welcome and we can't wait to see you. The Chamber is serving Salmon and Ham. We hear Santa will be stopping by for pictures. You Don't want to miss it. Sign up for dishes is below. Simply click the Holiday Potluck button and fill out the form.

Friday, December 9th is the last day to add your home or business to the Holiday Lights Tour map. We are partnering with the Oregon Coast Today to have the map in next week's paper and available digitally for you to follow and enjoy. Some of my favorite memories as a kid was getting in the car to drive around and see the light. I continued that tradition as a parent and grandparent and every Christmas Eve we pile in our car with, candy canes, the dogs and hot chocolate and drive around in our mini parade and enjoy the lights.

Be the reason someone smiles today,

Mellissa Sumner

Chamber Director
